AG Book Club :: Rising Strong

This month’s selection for the AG Book Club was Rising Strong by BrenĂ© Brown. To start things off, I just have to say that anytime I try to talk about this book, I end up sounding like this ::

But I really did find this book to be enormously helpful for providing a methodology for facing and processing the hard things in life. Whether it’s a personal failure, professional blunder, sickness or the suffering of someone you love, this book presents a framework for working through hardship.

Here’s my own review of the book ::

I recently read Emotionally Healthy Spirituality by Peter Scazzero, which is saying many of the same things but from a Christian perspective. Scazzero points to a similar method for facing your own demons, while adding in contemplative spirituality and the practice of spiritual disciplines. I highly recommend it as a supplement to Rising Strong.

Next month’s book is The Boys In The Boat, which received rave reviews last year and is written in the same style as Unbroken, a favorite here at AG Book Club. Can’t wait. :)

Happy Reading!

P.S. Mrs. Mike and To Kill A Mockingbird.
